Wild Writing
Wild Writing is a writing practice that we do in community.
We write with abandon, share our truth, while holding space for one another.
Why
Wild
Write?
Are you looking for more? More truth, more connection, more awareness? And are you looking for a beautiful community and container to find this? A community full of truth tellers, and soul seekers? A place where you can lay your heart on the table and be met with gentle witnessing.
Are you looking for less? Less performance, less external feedback, less perfection?
This class allows you to let go of the need to care, give, fawn, perform, critique, problem solve….. Just show up. Listen, write and read…. That’s it!
Great news! You don’t need to be a writer to wild write.
And… if you are a writer, wild writing will enrich your practice. Enabling you to write more authentically and allow you to generate more content and ideas.
How it works: Class is divided into three equal parts.
The structure of Wild Writing is based on decades of experience of the WW founder Laurie Wagner, and it works.
-
Listen
I read a poem that I have selected for this class. The poems selected are accessible and are meant to soften you as you sink into your own writing. I offer jump off lines from the poem to help you move into the writing portion of the class.
-
Write
Next, we write (myself included!) for 10-15 minutes. Using the jump off line to help you begin writing, you say “yes” to what comes up. Your job is to write, never letting the pen leave the page. No need to worry if the writing is “good” or entertaining or organized in any way. Simply listen to what arises in you and then put your words on the page.
-
Read
The final stage is the reading of our poems. Each of us reads what we wrote. Without preamble, each person dives into their writing, reading it aloud. When finished reading, there is no feedback, just a show of appreciation and then we move onto the next person. This is an opportunity to share our writing and to witness the writing of others.
-
Repeat
Then we REPEAT this with two more poems and writing sessions.
Wild writing is a doorway into the creative unconscious.
We have the opportunity to bear witness to the beautiful truth that arises in ourselves and each other. Wild writing is freedom on the page which can allow for more freedom in the world. Saying yes to what arises on the page, leads to a path of vulnerability and honesty that informs your relationships and choices in your life.
Wild Writing may be for you if:
you are seeking a safe space with deep connection
you are eager to build the ability to listen without judgment to yourself and to others
you wish to be seen in your truth
you are looking for a space that does not involve giving or receiving feedback
you would like to discover your authentic voice both on the page and in your life
to sit back, relax and listen to gorgeous and accessible poetry
you are a seeker of healing and knowing yourself better
you love to journal but want to take it to the next level of sharing your writing and getting inspired by a poem before writing
you want to feel present and strengthen the muscle of focusing on your own voice
you are tired of chit chat, glossy stories. And are seeking something richer, more honest and genuine
This is not the right place if:
you want to receive feedback on your writing or provide feedback on other people’s writing
This could be for you even if:
you do not see yourself as a writer
you’re not familiar with poetry
you have never done anything like this before
This is a vulnerable, sweet, healing practice.
Each person’s shared writing is held gently by the group creating a beautiful mosaic of each other’s stories, memories, hopes, dreams, regrets, and ideas. After I read the poem and just before you write, you will have a moment of mystery that is exciting and scary, but then you will just jump in and go with it. Such a beautiful microcosm of life. The not knowing yet showing up anyway. Trusting you will figure it out along the way. The thrill of seeing what appears on the page as you respond to the poem and what it inspires in you.
In the end, you will know yourself better and feel more connected to your community of writers.
